A true angel, starving on the roof.
Salchicha, among many others (including Noodle) were trapped on a roof in Mexico, left by their owners to starve in the blazing sun. When a rescue offered to take the clearly struggling dogs from the family, they refused. They kept them on the roof, refusing to give them food or water or shade. Since they were clearly abusing these dogs, the rescue came back in the middle of the night with a ladder, and stole the dogs off the roof. This was the beginning of their new lives.
Although only Salchicha and Noodle came to the US with us, the others were safely transported to the rescue in Mexico. To ensure good health, both dogs stayed with the Conolly family for a while as fosters. At first the two were extremely timid and would not play or socialize with the other dogs. After a few days of endless love and care, they became more comfortable and social. They realized humans are not out to get them, they no longer have to starve, and they have clean and comfortable beds to sleep on at night. Noodle was soon adopted by a loving family.
Salchicha on the other hand, stole our hearts. She has quite the personality. She ALWAYS wants attention and is not afraid to tell us by either whining adorably when she doesn't want to get off of our laps, barking to get up on our beds, or jumping right up on our laps as soon as we sit down. After a while, our entire family became quite attached to her and we decided to keep her. She went from a skeleton on the roof to our spoiled baby, and the Conolly family cannot be happier with our 5th baby.

My heart is broken. We thought Rosie would get better with all of the antibiotics, but her additional bloodwork came back today and it was really bad. She was severely anemic (red and white counts were very low, and her platelets that should be between 150,000-700,000, were less than 10,000.) The vet said she was very high risk for micro bleeds, where she could easily begin bleeding internally. Her liver enzymes (all 3 that were measured) were 2.5 times higher than they should be. Her kidney function wasn’t good. The vet said that even if she had blood transfusions, she would have a very poor prognosis and even if she did survive she would have serious health problems with liver disease, etc. She was suffering so much. Saturday she was fine. Sunday she started to look uncomfortable. Monday she was worse and stopped eating. That night she stopped drinking too. Throughout the night she struggled to breathe and trembled in pain. She barely slept at at all. I was up much of the night with her. She couldn’t even put her head down for long because she was so uncomfortable. So Tuesday I took her to the urgent care vet and they found the tick borne illnesses so I was super excited b/c she got medicine and was going to get better. They sent her bloodwork out for more testing. Last night was awful. It hurt her to breathe, she couldn’t get comfortable. She kept trembling. I still thought the antibiotics just take a few days to work. But then the vet called and said her bloodwork was so bad and she was not going to get better. There was a lot more wrong than they thought. He said she was clearly suffering and we had the option to give her the gift of peace. It was a very tough decision and my heart broke over and over, but in the end she was hurting too much. I couldn’t let her die slowly and painfully. We gave her the gift of peace and let her rest. Thank you all for your prayers and support. I appreciate it so much. (Especially since now it totaled over $1,000 and her transport costs will never be reimbursed.) We appreciate those of you who donated to try to help her. We tried everything we could. It hurt my heart so much to let her go. I have an empty lap for the first time in 10 days. I loved that little girl more in 10 days than I ever thought I could. Heaven is lucky to have her. She was perfect. I will love you forever my Rosie girl.

Travelers!!! This is Alana here to tell you just how easy transporting a puppy is. First of all, you can transport the puppy with no cost to you as Wags and Wings will reimburse you! In order to transport a puppy, you must have vaccination documents and a carrier, which our rescue will provide. When checking in, you have to check in the pup as well, which is incredibly easy as the reservation will be made ahead of time! Then, you go through security with your pup and a small personal item (a medium sized backpack is allowed!). In security the only thing that is different with a puppy is that you carry it through the metal detector. Does anyone really like going through security? Well having a puppy sure does make it more enjoyable… When on the plane your puppy will stay in the carrier and most of the time the flight attendants will let you have the puppy or the carrier on your lap! At customs, you will have to go through an agriculture line but this only takes about 20 minutes or less. When you land, either a foster will pick up the pup at the airport or you can take them home with you!!! Transporting a puppy is incredibly easy and airlines/airports are very accommodating. Marq (pictured here), was a trooper and didn’t have any accidents in his carrier, but he was able to go at the pet relief areas. I was able to carry him around the airport but also put him in his carrier when he was tired or if I needed a break. These puppies are all very easygoing, making the transporting experience a positive one. Marq and all of his friends have a better chance at life if they are adopted here so please, help if you can. If you can transport, we will find a puppy to save and a loving home for them here in the US. Now that you know how easy it is, might as well transport a puppy when coming home from Cancun!
